RE: The rudest thing I've seen....In a while...
Not as bad as 2 hours before checkout time having someone pull into the rear of your site to wait for your departure. He had the site reserved but got to wait until the minute of checkout time while I very openly and obviously killed time while watching him do a slow burn. This exact same thing happened to us once! We handled it the exact same way you did :B
Also, at a DNR campground once, we had a fellow pull up and tell us that he'd been planning on camping in the site we were set up in. It was quite clear that we were completely settled in and that we had already been there a couple of days, but still, he flat out asked us if we'd move to another site so he and his kids could have our site. Needless to day, we did NOT become camping buddies that weekend. Now THAT'S rude!
To the OP, I have to agree with the others. While it wasn't exactly polite, if it WAS in fact, the rudest thing you've seen in a while, then you are truly blessed!
RE: Do you lock your doors when you leave your rv when at a park
Yes....but we realize that it is not going to keep anyone out who really wants to get in.. I agree. We're usually gone all day and we lock up all but the cheap stuff like our chairs, tablecloth, etc. EVERYTHING else is securely locked away, including our ice chest.
While it's true that if they really want to get in, they will -- I'm not going to make it easy for them! It's also true that if they see how secure and locked up all OUR stuff is, there's a good chance they'll move on to your UNlocked (and easier to steal) stuff.
RE: Vegatarian Recipes
These can be wrapped in foil and placed on the grill until cheese is melted and sandwich is heated through. YUM!
Hot Zucchini Subs

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
4 (6 inch) French or Italian sandwich rolls, split
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the zucchini in butter until browned and slightly tender. Season with red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, and stir in the marinara sauce. Cook and stir until sauce is heated.
Spoon a generous amount of the zucchini mixture into each sandwich roll. Top with a handful of shredded mozzarella. Close the rolls, and wrap individually in aluminum foil.
Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until bread is heated through, and cheese is melted.

These come out great in the pie iron!

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in onion, and cook until softened, about 2 minutes. Stir in beans and corn, then add sugar, salsa, and pepper flakes; mix well. Cook until heated through, about 3 minutes.
Melt 2 teaspoons of the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Place a tortilla in the skillet, sprinkle evenly with cheese, then top with some of the bean mixture. RE: Need easy Halloween receipes for kids
I love making those Witch's Fingers. If you're pinched for time you can make them out of Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Dough.
I've never made Kitty Litter Cake but I've always been kind of intrigued by it.
RE: Want to impress newbies
for breakfast we make burritos. scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage, spinach, red onions, peppers etc. We make them at home before we leave and wrap them in foil, and freeze them. When you wake get the camp fire going and place them around the fire. Serve with sour cream and Hot sauces. Sounds wonderful, I'll have to try that some time. Do you defrost the burritos before placing them on the fire?
Sometimes when we have others to feed we'll break a dozen eggs into a 12 cup muffin tin (spray with cooking spray first). Break the yolks, add a little salt and pepper and bake them until done (350 degs for 20 min or so). Set them out with english muffins, canadian bacon, sausage patties and sliced cheese and then everyone can make their own "McMuffins". Easy for me and it always seems to be a hit.
RE: Gas Stations open on Christmas
At most stations that have pay at the pump with the card reader around here are available even when the station is closed. They leave the pumps on for self service 24/7Same here on the west coast. Doesn't matter if the station is open or not, just pay with plastic at the pump.
RE: 1 generator vs. 2 piggy backed
Last year I talked hubby OUT of getting a 3000 after reading several threads like this one. I don't even know how much a 3000 weighs, but I DO know that I (the DW) can haul around a 2000 without him. It's a little heavy for a "young" middle-aged 5'4" wife, but totally DO-able.
Please note that we live in the Pacific NW and the climate is cooler here, so AC is rarely an issue. Otherwise, we can run what we need on the 2000. When we decide we need more power, we'll piggy back. We're not out any money that way, and I can lift them both.
Had it not been for the advice on this FAB FORUM we probably would have bought the 3000 and been sorry when we realized that I couldn't get it out of the truck on my own.
Funny, every so often I get mad at this place and the people in it, but right about that time I'm reminded how valuable the info on here really is. I DO LOVE IT HERE!
RE: Just bought a 1990 34FT Pace arrow WHAT A LEMON
We've had a few older trailers and have always done our own work on them, including some extensive things like replacing windows and removing and replacing a large section of the floor. Don't get discouraged, it can be done! By Spring you'll have learned a ton and you'll be ready to take your rig somewhere neat. GOOD LUCK!
RE: Wife does the backing!!!
Once in site, pick up orange cone and stuff in bay close door.
Something you just can't do with a DW.:B:W I choked on my Sprite when I read that...lol!
Hubby does the backing up, but we have our signals down so well that we never have to speak or yell or wave all around. We almost always get it right on the first try.
Once my BIL stepped in to help hubby back up and he was waving all over so I gently pushed him aside and with a few quick signals had hubby backed in perfectly as usual. Sis and BIL had never seen us do that before and were VERY impressed. To us, it's so normal we don't even think about it.
He is NOT allowed to stuff me in the storage compartment though!
RE: Wife does the backing!!!
I have no problem backing up a motorhome, but I'm working on learning to back up the fifth wheel. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I'll get it eventually. :B
RE: Want to impress newbies
If I were going to do something else it would probably be the foil packet meals. People always enjoy customizing their own and they always seem to be a hit.
But seriously Julie, I think the menu you have is pretty impressive already! Hope you have a BLAST!
RE: Please, we need your prayers.
I'm so very sorry for your loss.
"For Just a Moment"
by Brenda Penepent
For just a moment
I'm sure I saw
a flicker of light ahead.
Perhaps it was your smile.
Though past now, remembered,
in my heart
like the small sound of
a butterfly passing by.
No night
is so dark
that can not be brightened
with memories of you.
Raindrops carry along
your blessings from heaven
to wash away my tears
and bring me hope anew.
RE: Wayward kids wandering into campsite
Try this "Ok, guys, thanks for playing. Time for you to go now!" Kids are used to being told what to do just tell them to leave in a confident voice and they'll scurry away! If they question you for why, just say "Our family has things to do now, so you need to go."This is exactly what I do. As far as I'm concerned when you're in my house or my campsite or in any way on MY turf, then it's MY RULES. I have absolutely no qualms about telling a child to get their feet off my couch, or to put something down because it's not a toy, or whatever -- and I'll do it right in front of their Mom & Dad, when necessary. If their parents won't do it, then I will because it's MINE. I say it very nicely, but firmly. It always works and I've never had a parent get upset with me. Same in the campsite. I just lay out the rules and say "I'm sorry but we don't allow kids to play inside the camper." or "We have something to do, so it's time for you to go back to your own camp now." I'll even tell them not to come back until a certain time, simply by saying "My kids won't be available to play again until after 3 o'clock."
Just be nice, but firm.
Can you freeze a whole pie?
I know you buy them that way...
But in this case we got it from our neighbors. A whole, homemade blackberry pie in a Corelle pie plate. It looks YUMMY, but we don't want to eat the whole thing (there's only the two of us).
Hubby suggested we take it to his parents' house for dinner on Friday, and share. I like the idea, but this pie was made yesterday. It's only Tuesday.
Will it still be good on Friday? If not, could we freeze it? Will it be soggy and icky? Will the Corelle plate freeze okay?
I love to cook, but have little experience with pie making. HELP!
RE: Lake cabin vs RVing
Congratulations on your cabin, I bet it's awesome and I hope you create many happy memories there.
It's always been a little dream of ours to own land that we could take our RV to. BUT -- I don't think we'd be able to give up the RV for a cabin. Part of the beauty of RVing is being able to take your "cabin" to different places. We're super active people who want to sight-see, canoe, ride bikes and geocache. We'd get tired of the same scenery all the time.
That being said, a little spot of land that was ALL yours -- that you could go to on holiday weekends or on the spur of the moment -- would ROCK!
Have a blast!
RE: Baked Cheese and Onion Dip
I would be very tempted to use half sour cream and half mayo. Two cups of mayo and all that cheddar cheese sounds like it might be a little on the greasy side. My artichoke dip uses half of each and comes out really creamy and not greasy.
Otherwise, it sounds great. My hubby loves onions and I have a feeling he'd gobble this up! I'll have to give it a try some time.
